Intuitive Breastfeeding Show

Pregnancy Place Radio - Episode 6 - Biologically Hardwired for Breastfeeding

Karen and I are having such fun bringing you our heart and soul through education. Our show today was inspired from my Intuitive Breastfeeding class at New Seasons. We talked about how our bodies are hardwired to breastfeed and how our culture either supports or can hinder the process.

In Addition to the Show, here are a few links we would like you to know about:

A video of The Breast Crawl
A great video to see Hunger Cues

Some of our "Take Homes" for the show were:

  • If nursing is hard, and you want to stop, you might an lactation consultant.
  • It might take some time for you to feel like it is easy.
  • Consider independent lactation support as an additional resource to the Hospital-based consultant.
  • Postpartum Doulas and Support groups are helpful when the extended support leave.

Tune in Tuesdays at Noon-Pacific for the next Episode of The Pregnancy Place!

What's in a name

Are you pregnant and looking for the right name for your little one. I found this really fun tool! BABY NAME VOYAGER

I think a lot of us would like a name as unique as the joy we are bringing into the world. My first son is named Justin, very popular name I know, when he was born I wanted him to have a part of me and I was to be named Eric Justin if I was a boy. It was a way for me to give him my 'family' name if he was going to be adopted. It is fun to look at the graphic and see that the name Justin really didn't become popular until the 1970. It is an old name as well, being able to be graphed in the 1800s.

My second kiddo is named Coogan, his name has yet to reach the chart and I don't know if it ever will (and I kind of like it that way). And our last son, Harlan, another old name. Harlan reached it's peak in the 1920s and dropped off the chart in the 80s. I know of only one other Harlan who is younger than mine, all the others I have heard about are all old men!

It is one of the really cool things we get to chose for our children, their name. Some families hold long traditions, while others blend and create new names. What's in a name for you? Do you have any traditions or family names you will be giving your child? Or are you going out on your own?

Does this mean it won't ever happen again? Not at all!! It just means we get a bit more opportunity to bring you an even bigger and better event in the future!

And on the upside, because we have such great resources in the community...we have an alternative to offer all of you....

The Makings of a Show

While working on today's topic I find myself remembering my pregnancies. I have had the joy of being pregnant three times ... and I must admit that one more would be nice. (but don't tell my husband that) When working on a promo for our last show about how to become a doula I recorded that I'm a doula because we are done adding to our family and I still need babies in my life. This is true, but not the only reason I am a doula.

I am a doula because of the mamas. Daily I am reminded of the strength of women and the transformation of bringing life into this world. I keep remembering the saying, "babies are a great way to start people." I'm not sure where it came but I would like to add that babies are a great way to grow mamas and families!

Today on our show we are going to discuss the beauty of pregnancy. I know many of you feel radiant but some of you are having a hard time finding your footing with the news. How can we support you at this time? Come join us at The Pregnancy Place where internet radio brings a doula to every woman.
