DONA Conference & the Big Latch On-PDX
Pregnancy Place Radio - Episode 22 - A ReCap of Two Great Events
Last week Erica was in New Mexico at the DONA Annual Conference for professional doulas and Karen celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with over 500 Portland moms. Both had such a great time, they just have to share their stories!
We would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful speakers from the DONA Conference and the information and service they provide to the community at large. Below you can find more information on the professionals we talked about today.
Marshall Klaus, MD,
An Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics in California and one of the founders of DONA International. Some of the work Dr. Klaus has given us include, Care of the High Risk Neonate, The Doula Book and Your Amazing Newborn.
Michel Odent, MD,
Has been supporting birth since 1962. In 1970 he introduced the concepts of home-like birthing rooms and birthing pools in hospitals. You can hear him speak on gentle birth here.
Penny Simkin, PT, CD(DONA),
Ms. Simkin is also one of the founders of DONA International. Not only does she spend a majority of her time teaching she has brought us great works like, The Birth Partner, and When Survivors Give Birth.
Danette Watson, BA, CCE(NACE)
Childbirth Educator and author of 25 Ways to Awaken Your Birth Power and 25 Ways to Joy and Inner Peace for Mothers. She brought the lovely quote from "Getting the Love You Want" Erica read during the show.
And where they are getting the space right The Farm Midwifery Center in Summertown, Tennessee. Ina May Gaskin is another woman building a foundation for normal birth.
